Metamorphosis
Like all Lepidoptera, monarchs undergo complete metamorphosis;
their life cycle has four phases:
egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Monarchs transition from eggs to adults during warm summer temperatures in as little as 25 days, extending to as many as seven weeks during cool spring conditions.
During their development, both larvae and their milkweed hosts are vulnerable to weather extremes, predators, parasites, and diseases; commonly fewer than 10% of monarch eggs and caterpillars survive.
The metamorphosis from few pieces of glass into this b...utterly beautiful butterfly will enchante your artistic senses.
This class requires that you have previously taken a few beginner stained glass classes ( or at the discretion of the instructor) and be in control of your glass cutting acuracy for this 12 inch wing span and 80 pieces.
We will guide you at every step of the way to complete your creation!
Enjoy the art of Stained Glass; cutting, grinding, copper foiling, and soldering are all part of the process. You will without a doubt realize a very special piece of stained glass with YOU as the artist.
This is a long class so be prepared to have something to drink and a snack with you (if you wish). For safety reasons, please make sure that you have closed shoes and your long hair tied-back.
Maximum 8 participants per class.
We have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Please feel free to contact us at 419.756.1700 or pia@mansfieldartcenter.org

Basse Taille which translates from French as "shallow cut", is a design made on metal most often by carving, engraving, stamping, or engin turning, (textured metal) that is then covered by translucent enamel.
The recesses formed by incising the design causes the enamel to have different tones, thereby highlighting the design.
in this class we will use textured metal to create our enamel base. Then the enamel will be grade sifted and fired. componants will be available to make a completed piece.
This technique probably began in Italy in the late 13th to 14th centuries and is also referred to as "translucent enameling".
