If you want to try something totally different than the run of the mill in painting, try painting on silk.
Silk painting refers to the practice of applying paints or dyes to silk textiles.
Silk is a fine fiber made from the filaments of silkworm cocoons. When boiled and gently unwound, these pupal casings produce silk strands that can be combined into threads, which, in turn, can be used to make textiles.
Painting on silk is soothing and extraordinarily pleasing to do and watch. It is simply exquisite!
This class is designed for beginners to learn the basics of silk painting. you do not need to know how to draw, a pattern will be provided to you so you can transfer your design. you just need patience and a steady hand.
You will have a choice of 2 different silk painting, a baby leopard or a field of lillies. you will be guided step by step on the process.
The method we will be using in this class is the classic “Serti” method which encapsulates the dye within a certain area of the design so the color stays in place .
You will have the opportunity to either wear your art as a scarf or mount it on a 35 by 35 canvas. This will be shown and discussed at the beginning of the class.
If you are interested in seeing a sample prior to the class, please stop by the MAC and see our upcoming class samples.
Because of the space required for each student to paint , we can only have classes of a few poeple at any one time.
We have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Please feel free to contact pia@mansfieldartcenter.org
