 Art journaling is an open-ended form of art on loose paper or in a bound journal where the focus is on the process of creating and of self-expression rather than a particular end result. Drawing, mark-making, writing, painting, and collage are often components.

And what a better time then the fast approching fall to get into Nature Art journaling.

During this course Erica Russel, your instructor, will walk you through the different steps with and variety of techniques to create a wonderful and very personal Nature Art journal with a dynamic documentation.

From Mud to Art! 

The transformation of clay into vessels is incredibly interesting and the journey is worth learning.

If you have never played with clay, here is your opportunity to take a 6 weeks class to realize that your inner artist has an irresistible attraction to clay and create wonderful pieces of art.

If you have already played with clay, Don,your instructor will kindly continue to teach you a more advance technique.

You will learn how to throw on the wheel, alter on the wheel, hand build, professionally glaze and more on this course. 

Don Snyder of Dragonfly Pottery, a renown ceramicist in the region and a retired MCS teacher, will guide you into becoming the artist you aspire to become. Don has an unrivaled patience with his students and will communicate his passion for clay.

Rest assured that the Mansfield Art Center takes sanitation seriously at all times. For your protection and other’s, we kindly ask you to respect social distancing and to wear a mask for the duration of the workshop if you have not been vaccinated. 

Only a maximum of 8 people can register for the workshop so make sure you sign up soon.

This is a unique opportunity to polish your oil painting knowledge.

In every artist, there is always a room to better oneself by sharing what other artists have learned throughout the passage of time; and this is exactly what Paul McClain intends to share with you in this class.

 With your instructor, Paul, the relaxed and informal atmosphere will guide you and prepare you to get the best out of your creativity during these committed 12 hours ( 6 classes of 2 hours each) of oil painting. 

Whether you are a regular painter or feel that you need to jump back in the saddle from years of a break, it will be filled with discovery of shape, color and how to”s.

Bring the size canvas of your choice and a picture or photograph of a subject that you would like to paint. The Mansfield Art Center will have the oil paint and the brushes here for you or bring your own set of brushes if you are more comfortable with it!

Please feel free to call if you have further questions regarding the class.  The only prerequisite is that you have some drawing and painting experience.

EW-10-16 Japanese Book Binding

The Art of Japanese Book Binding

Japanese Side stitch is a simple non-adhesive binding that is an excellent intro to bookbinding. Also known as Stab Binding, this traditional binding was practiced in China, Japan, and Korea. Thread and paper are the only materials needed. it is a simple way to bind loose sheets into and elegant handmade book.
