Crow watercolor

Instructor: Emalie Snowdall

Dates: October 14 from 2-4pm

October 16 from 5-7pm

Ages: 12+

NO DRAWING REQUIRED

In honor of this year's Crow Fest, in this class we will be painting crows!

Crows are the birds of the season, they are incredibly intelligent birds with a knack for mischief. While of course crows have often been seen as a bad omen, they can also symbolize wisdom, adaptability, and new beginnings.

This class is open to beginners and intermediate painters who want to learn some watercolor tricks and bring home this fall themed painting. This is a deceptively simple painting that any skill level can enjoy creating.

In this class your instructor, Emalie, will walk you through each step of the painting, we will primarily go over wet on wet techniques as well as mixing dark colors.

All materials provided, however if you have your own paints and would like to bring those, please feel free.

For any questions or concerns, call the Mansfield Art Center at 419-756-1700, or send an email to pia@mansfieldartcenter.org

Watercolor beginner course

Instructor: Emalie Snowdall

Dates: October 18, 25, November1,15

THIS CLASS DOES NOT REQUIRE DRAWING SKILLS

In this series of classes learn the basics of watercolor so that you are able to make beautiful paintings yourself and truly understand the materials.

Each class will be broken into covering one important aspect of watercolor with the final class being a class dedicated to applying what you've learned as well as a chance to ask any questions and get feedback.

Class 1 will focus on materials, the best brushes, paper, paint, and how to use them. We will go over student grade vs professional grade supplies as well as other fun watercolor tools with which to experiment.

Class 2 will focus on color theory and how it is applied to watercolor. We will create color wheels and color charts so that you may get a better understanding of your watercolor paints and how they mix with one another.

Class 3 will focus on value and layering. Layering is a key part of watercolor, as the more you layer the darker the color will become. Learning this technique will enhance your understanding of the medium and ensure your paintings will be well balanced.

Class 4, apply what you've learned.

We will be doing a small still life study (I will have it sketched out for you). Ask questions and get help from me during this session.

For any questions or concerns, call the Mansfield Art Center at 419-756-1700, or send an email to pia@mansfieldartcenter.org
